This was it. The day I finally started my adventure. The day I would finally start my journey. I
pulled on my hat and my shoes. I ran down the stairs.
"Careful, don't hurt yourself," Mom said. " I know you're excited, but I don't want you hurting
yourself on the most important day of you life."
"I know, I'll be careful," I told my mom. "I have to go- I don't want all the starter pokemon to be
gone." I ran out the door. I saw my mom come out after me.
"Wait!" she called. "Take this on your way to Sandgem town- I don't want any wild pokemon hurting
you." she gave me a Super Repel.
"Thanks." I said. I felt so stupid- how could I have forgotten?
"Good luck," my mom wished me as I ran off again, spraying the Super Repel all over my body. I saw
her waving out of the corner of my eye.
I slowed down a little when I was halfway there to catch my breath. I still had some Repel left and
I had a feeling it was wearing off. I put some more on but then- I sprayed it in my eye. "Ow," I said,
rubbing my eye. I had no time to stop to get ice or anything, so I kept on going.
Before I knew it, I was at Sandgem town. The lab was the first building there, making it easy to
locate. I walked in the sliding doors of the lab.
"Ah, Reed, I'm glad you made it. You're the first one here." Professor Rowan told me.
"Yeah, I want a starter pokemon," I said.
"Oh, we have the three right here." he said. He opene a breifcase with three pokeballs. He released
I eyed the Chimchar. He had this sort of burning hate in his eyes- like he hated evryone he saw. I
looked at Piplup. His eyes were packed with fun behind them- but I wanted a loyal pokemon that
would be serious in battle, and that wasn't what Piplup seemed.
I looked into Turtwig's eyes- his sparkled like-diamonds, and it looked like it wanted to be adopted-
like no one had chosen it for a thousand years. The turtwig looked strong and wise. He had deep
greenleaves on the twig atop his head.
"I'll have Turtwig," I said. "He looks smart."
"Ah. That Turtwig? She is a good choice."
My jaw dropped. She? Female starter pokemon were exceptionally rare. "She?" I said aloud.
"Yes, she," he said. "Will you name her?"
Let's see, I thought. A she-turtwig. What's the name of a tree? My thoughts raced. "Redwood," I
"Yes, excellent name." he finshed his words just as Barry broke through the door, Dawn chasing
"I'm going to fine someone 1 million if I don't get a pokemon right now!" he glanced at the remaining
two and grabbed Chimchar and his pokeball. I glanced at Chimchar's eyes. He seemed to have a
flaming passion for Barry.
Professor Rowan just sighed.
"I guess I'm left with Piplup," Dawn said. She took the pokemon in her arms.
"You two are the two students who will receive pokedexes... because one of you three was too
impatient to wait thirty more seconds." he handed out pokedexes. "You two will be helping me with
my research. I expect you to complete every single page of this pokedex. I thank you, Reed and
Dawn. You may now begin your journey."
I walked out of the lab, holding Redwood. "This'll be sweet," I said to her. It's just her and me-
nothing will be in our way.
I was going to be the world's greatest pokemon master- using this turtwig, Redwood.
